The Riverland town of Waikerie has today formally changed its name to Ricciutown in honour of local boy turned good, Mark Ricciuto.
The change comes after years of lobbying the local council by community groups and Ricciuto himself.
Speaking to the Journal outside the local bakery, Ricciuto said he was honoured that town had acknowledged his significant achievements, including winning a Brownlow Medal, playing in the 1998 Adelaide premiership team, and punching Josh Carr at the Ramsgate.
Ricciutown is the latest Riverland town to dedicate its name to a heroic footballer, following in the footsteps of LoxTon(y Modra), RenMark (Bickley), and BerRi(cky Henderson).
